What is Detox?

Detox is the process of healing in which substances are cleansed from the body in a medical setting. The goal is to help clients end their physical dependency on drugs or alcohol so they can begin treatment with a clear mind, physical energy and renewed hope. The detox process is imperative to ensure safety and comfort levels for people undergoing the painful, and sometimes life-threatening, symptoms and potential medical complications that result from ending substance use. It also helps clients manage the severe cravings, anxiety and overall discomfort that arise from removing toxins from the body. This occurs because long-term drug or alcohol abuse creates imbalances in the brain and body that effect behavior, mood, logic and more. Withdrawal is part of the reason why it’s so difficult to achieve sustainable recovery and the main reason why so many addicts continue to use drugs or alcohol. Once toxins are safely removed, the client will transition into a 30-day residential program.

New Waters Recovery North Carolina FUND HIGHLIGHTS

  • Raleigh-Durham is one of the fastest growing regions in the nation, becoming a highly competitive destination for tech startups and research-related businesses. The region is also anchored by three major research universities: North Carolina State University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as the cities of Raleigh and Durham and the town of Chapel Hill. Additionally, Charlotte, North Carolina is only two and a half hours away, allowing ready access to the most populous market in the state.
  • Substance abuse and co-occurring disorders such as depression and anxiety are at the forefront of a national health crisis facing the United States. As a result, addiction treatment has rapidly become one of the most highly sought-after subsectors of healthcare services for investment as a multitude of key tailwinds at both the macroeconomic and micro-economic level have promoted the flow of private investor dollars into the sector. At present, we are experiencing one of the largest epidemics of our generation. With the current Covid-19 pandemic and the abrupt stop in the global economy, we are at the precipice of a second wave of mental health and substance related consequences. We are seeing a massive increase in alcohol consumption, drug use and suicidal idealization as a result of job loss, toxic family dynamics and general uncertainty of the future.
  • Accessibility to substance abuse treatment continues to be a major barrier for those who struggle with addiction. In particular, the lack of access to medical detox programs, which safely remove substances and stabilizes patients. Currently, there are only three residential treatment programs within two hours of the Raleigh-Durham area and zero freestanding medical detox facilities. The three programs target the lower income demographic, utilizing in- network insurance and Medicaid. Such a model focuses on high volume, resulting in lower quality of patient care, consumption, drug use and suicidal idealization as a result of job loss, toxic family dynamics and general uncertainty of the future. Over the last twenty (20) years, North Carolina has been experiencing year-over-year consistently rising opiate deaths.
  • New Waters Recovery will be a boutique facility catering to high-net-worth families with the ability to cash pay or utilize private insurance with out-of-network benefits. By creating a smaller high-end product, New Waters Recovery will be the resource for those who value privacy and discretion in a time of crisis.
